My name is Tim Flaherty and I was born in Pittsburgh and raised in Wexford. I work full time as fire marshal for the Township of Pine. I graduted in 1998 from Slippery Rock University with a degree in Safety Management, and from Geneva College with a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership in 2008. I joined the Wexford Volunteer Fire Company in March of 1990 as a junior member. I also spent two years with the Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire Company when I attended SRU. My current position is chief, and I have also served as a captain, lieutenant, training officer, and board member for the company. My current certifications are Firefighter II, Fire Instructor I, Fire Inspector II and Basic Vehicle Rescue Technician.
What I like most about being a volunteer firefighter is having the opportunity to serve the community through an important service. If I could speak to people on the bubble over joining the fire company I would stress the benefit of friendships that develop within the fire company. There is certainly a unique bond that you are not going to get in other types of volunteer organizations. If you have an interest in serving, and if you would like the opportunity to develop strong friendships, this is the place for you.
